Who is Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s new supreme leader?

Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei—who was killed in U.S.–Israeli strikes—has reportedly been selected as his successor.

Unlike his father, the 56-year-old has largely remained out of the public spotlight. He has never held a formal government position, delivered public speeches, or given interviews, and only a small number of photos and videos of him have been released over the years.

Despite his low profile, there have long been rumors that he exercised significant influence behind the scenes in Iran’s political and religious circles.
