Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain and launched a wider series of strikes across the region in retaliation for what Tehran described as a "massive" and ongoing assault by the United States and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were reported rising near the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Manama. Bahraini authorities confirmed an attack on Naval Support Activity Bahrain, the base that serves as a home port for anti-mine and logistical vessels; however, the extent of any damage to the base or any vessels present has not been made clear. The United States had not issued a comment at the time of the reports.
Across the Gulf and the wider region, several US-hosting states reported missile activity and interceptions. Qatar’s defence ministry said it had intercepted multiple missiles apparently aimed at al-Udeid air base, the largest US military installation in the region. The United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Kuwait — each hosting US forces — also reported missile incursions and interception efforts.
In Jordan, armed forces announced they had shot down two ballistic missiles targeting Jordanian territory and reported no casualties. The UAE’s defence ministry described the country as having been subjected to a "blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles." It said Emirati air-defence systems intercepted a number of missiles with “high efficiency,” but added that falling debris caused material damage in a residential area of Abu Dhabi and killed a civilian.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement saying its strikes targeted US bases and assets under an operation it named "Truthful Promise 4." The IRGC framed the operation as direct retaliation for an attack on Iran launched earlier by the US and Israel. That earlier strike, carried out at about 09:30 Tehran time (06:00 GMT) on Saturday, reportedly targeted sites linked to Iran’s leadership. The US president had urged Iranians to rise against their government following that strike.
In Israel, air-raid sirens sounded repeatedly throughout Saturday as the Israeli military reported numerous missile launches from Iran and said its air force was actively intercepting those projectiles.
The United States maintains roughly 13 military bases across the region, with a typical deployment of 30,000 to 40,000 personnel. As events unfolded, regional governments and military commands focused on missile defense and civilian safety, while the scope of military damage and any casualties beyond the Abu Dhabi report remained unclear.
Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the initial US–Israel attack as “wholly unprovoked, illegal, and illegitimate,” saying Iran’s armed forces were prepared to respond and would “teach the aggressors the lesson they deserve.”
