President Tinubu Visits Benue Massacre Victims in Heartfelt Show of Solidarity

In a poignant display of presidential compassion, Bola Tinubu arrived in Makurdi on Wednesday to console and support the victims of the devastating attack that struck the Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. The assault, which resulted in the tragic loss of over 59 lives and left many others injured, has plunged the community into grief and fear.

Touching down at the Nigerian Air Force Base's Tactical Air Command around 12:58 p.m., President Tinubu made a swift transition to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, where he personally visited the survivors of the massacre. The visit underscored his administration's commitment to addressing the humanitarian crisis and providing solace to those enduring the physical and emotional scars of violence.

Following his on-the-ground engagement with victims, Tinubu proceeded to the new Banquet Hall at the Benue State Government House for a confidential meeting with regional and national stakeholders. The gathering aimed to strategize on curbing the relentless cycle of violence that has plagued the state recently. Stakeholders included Governor Hyacinth Alia, fellow governors from Nigeria’s North-Central zone, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, among other top officials.

The agenda centered on offering support to the families of the deceased, displaced residents, and injured victims, while also exploring sustainable solutions to restore peace and security in the region. The summit highlighted the gravity of the security challenges facing Benue, a state often caught in the crossfire of various violent conflicts, and reaffirmed the federal government’s resolve to restore stability.

As the nation follows the unfolding developments, President Tinubu's visit stands as a testament to the administration’s urgent commitment to safeguarding lives, strengthening community resilience, and confronting insecurity head-on in one of Nigeria’s most affected regions.
