Iran Claims Israeli Strikes Target Shahran Oil Depot and South Pars Gas Field, Situation Under Control

In a recent escalation of tensions in the Middle East, Iran announced that its Shahran oil depot was targeted by an Israeli strike, along with an adjacent fuel tank. According to Iran's state media, IRNA, the incident was promptly responded to by operational and emergency teams, and the situation was reported to be fully under control.

The Shahran oil depot, strategically situated northwest of Tehran, became the focus of the attack, which was reportedly carried out by Israeli forces using unspecified means. The fuel tank, located to the south of Tehran, was also hit in the same incident. Iranian authorities confirmed that initial assessments revealed the fuel levels in both tanks were not high, mitigating the severity of the damage.

Iranian officials emphasized that swift action and response teams managed to contain the situation without further escalation. “The situation is fully under control,” IRNA quoted an unnamed source from Iran’s oil ministry, suggesting that despite the breach, there was no immediate threat to wider energy infrastructure or ecosystem safety.

This incident follows reports that earlier in the day, Israel targeted Iran’s South Pars gas field, the largest natural gas reserve globally, situated in Iran's southern Bushehr province. The attack was captured by circulating video footage on social media, which CNN geolocated, showing a substantial blaze engulfing the gas field with thick plumes of smoke rising into the atmosphere.

The South Pars field, vital to Iran’s energy sector and regional economics, appeared to sustain significant damage, as indicated by the footage showing the raging fire. The strike on the gas field marks a notable escalation in hostilities, with Iran’s energy infrastructure once again becoming a focal point amid ongoing regional tensions.

While Iran has maintained that its response remains measured and under control, the series of attacks underscores the escalating hostility between Iran and Israel, raising concerns over stability and security in the region. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and international observers await further developments as tensions remain high.
